How It Works

Enter your seed and edition. Every bastion remnant appears on the actual Nether terrain at lava level (y=31), and the panel lists the nearest ones to the center of the map with distance, direction and exact coordinates.

Each row also gives the Overworld portal spot: multiply Nether X and Z by 8. Use the Bastion types filter to find the nearest treasure bastion.

Accuracy

Same placement code as the Nether Seed Map, which I've checked in game on both editions. Java and Bedrock each get their own math, so pick the right edition.

Bastion types are predicted on both editions. More in the reference section below.

Reference: Finding Bastion Remnants

Bastion remnants are the big blackstone castles of the Nether, home to piglins, piglin brutes and hoglins. They hold the most gold in the dimension and the chests where netherite upgrade smithing templates turn up, which makes them the first stop on the way to netherite gear.

The four bastion types and what each is good for
  • Treasure room: a huge central chamber with gold blocks, magma cube spawners and the treasure chest, the best loot of any bastion. Also the most dangerous, with plenty of piglin brutes.
  • Housing units: stacked piglin living quarters. The most chests of any type, so the most chances at smithing templates and gold.
  • Hoglin stables: pens full of hoglins (a renewable food and leather source if you breed them) plus gold and chests.
  • Bridge: a long bridge leading to a fortified gate. Fewer chests, but easier to approach and clear.

This finder predicts the type of every bastion on Java and Bedrock, and the Bastion types filter narrows the map and the nearest list to the ones you want.

Getting a netherite upgrade smithing template

Since 1.20, upgrading diamond gear to netherite needs a netherite upgrade smithing template, and bastion remnant chests are where they are found. The treasure room chest is the most reliable source; the other bastion chests have a smaller chance each.

You only need to find one. A template can be duplicated at a crafting table with 7 diamonds and a block of netherrack. After that you still need netherite ingots: the Netherite Finder shows exact ancient debris coordinates for your seed.

Getting there: portal math and travel

One block in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld. To travel to a bastion at Nether X=300, Z=-150, build a portal in the Overworld near X=2400, Z=-1200 (the Nether coordinates times 8), light it, and you arrive close by. Each row in the nearest list shows that Overworld spot.

Wear at least one piece of gold armor so piglins stay neutral, and don't open chests or mine gold blocks in view of them. Piglin brutes are hostile no matter what you wear.

Why is there no bastion near me? (and Java vs Bedrock)

Bastions share their placement grid with Nether fortresses: the Nether is divided into regions and each region gets one structure, either a fortress or a bastion. Bastions are the more common of the two, but they can't generate in basalt deltas (on either edition), so a delta-heavy area can push them further out.

Java and Bedrock use different random number generators for structures, so the same seed has its bastions in completely different places on each edition, even though the Nether terrain is the same. Always pick your edition before reading coordinates.
